How to ensure safe-pet travel

How to ensure safe-pet travel

1.      Consult a good vet and get your pet vaccinated before traveling. Different places have different vaccination requirements and there is a chance of coming in contact with other animals at the new location.
2.     Pets get accustomed to a particular food brand and litter . It is much easier to take along this litter and food with you than having to buy a new one at the destination.

<br /> Sometimes you may not get the usual brand and may need to use another brand that you pet may or may not accept.
3.      Let you pet have a nice legible Identity Card with full particulars like its name along you're your name and address details and phone number.

4.     A microchip placed in your pet is much advisable. It can be permanent even if the pet happens to lose its collar and tag somewhere during the trip.
5.     I have seen many people driving the car with either a cat or dog on the lap. This is against the rules and more over dangerous to both the driver and the pet. Let the pet be secured to a seat at the back.
6.     Any pet with a microchip needs to be registered with a service.
7.     Just like you have a first aid kit for any unpredictable issues, take along a pet useful first aid kit.
8.     Like humans pets also suffer from  dehydration . A water bowl that can be clipped on to the leash is great and pack a good quantity of water.
9.     Carry a dog walking leash that holds Poop bags   and water bowl.
10.   Just as you should never leave a child alone in the car so also you should not leave your dog / cat alone in the car. The temperature in the car rises at a phenomenal rate causing hypothermia, dehydration. Every time you get down to do some shopping or sight seeking make it a point to take your pet along.
11.  Like humans pets also feel more comfortable with the smells of home. Take along something which the pet is used to like a towel, blanket, water bowl or  chewing things. Then the new location won't be that stressful to the pet.
12.  Prefer a car to a plane whenever viable. Cars are more relaxing as the pets are used to them. Plan the trip in such a way that you have ample time for frequent stops on the way.
13.  Like every human baby is secured in its carrier and children wear seat belts so too should a pet be fastened safely. A pet that sits freely in the car is dangerous as it may disturb the driver or other passengers or even other pets.

      14.  Sometimes the car needs to stop suddenly. In such situations the carrier with the pet may be thrown around either in the car or even outside. To avoid this the carrier should be always fastened safely.

      15.   Back seats are safer to the pets.  Front seats are never safe for a pet. In case of an accident the air bag which opens up may unfortunately end up hurting your pet.
       16.   Every time you travel out of the city make note of all the veterinary hospitals and clinics on the route you take and also at the location where you are going. It would be very helpful in case you need to take your pet there
17.   Go in for high technology tags that can use Bluetooth or GPS  to locate missing pets. I've been using this  collar for a year now.      Bon Voyage to you and your fur babies!
